Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park is located in northern Tanzania, at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Covering about 330 square kilometers, the park is named after Lake Manyara, a shallow alkaline lake that occupies a large portion of its area.

The park is known for its rich biodiversity and scenic beauty, with habitats ranging from groundwater forests and acacia woodlands to open grasslands and the lake itself. Lake Manyara is famous for large flocks of flamingos and other water birds, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.

Wildlife in the park includes elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and baboons. It is also known for its tree-climbing lions, a rare behavior that makes sightings especially unique.

Lake Manyara National Park is easily accessible from Arusha and is often included in northern safari circuits along with Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, and Serengeti. Its compact size allows for rewarding game drives even on a short visit.
