Kitulo National Park

**Kitulo National Park Description**

Kitulo National Park is located in the southern highlands of Tanzania, spanning the Mbeya and Njombe regions. Covering about 413 square kilometers, the park sits at an altitude of around 2,600 meters on the Kitulo Plateau. It is one of the few national parks in Africa established primarily to protect its rich plant biodiversity.

Often referred to as “The Garden of God,” Kitulo is renowned for its spectacular wildflowers, especially during the rainy season from November to April. The park is home to over 350 species of vascular plants, including many rare and endemic orchids, lilies, and alpine flora.

While large mammals are scarce, the park supports species such as eland, mountain reedbuck, and occasional zebras. It is also a prime destination for birdwatchers, featuring rare birds like the Denham’s bustard, blue swallow, and several species found only in Tanzania.

Kitulo’s landscape is a mix of open grasslands, montane forests, and scenic valleys, offering excellent opportunities for hiking, photography, and nature observation. Its peaceful and remote setting makes it ideal for those looking to explore Tanzania’s lesser-known natural wonders.
