Katavi National Park

Katavi National Park is a remote and wild park located in the western part of Tanzania. Covering approximately 4,471 square kilometers, it is one of the country’s largest national parks and among the least visited, making it a hidden gem for adventurous travelers seeking an authentic safari experience.

The park features vast floodplains, open woodlands, seasonal lakes, and the Katuma River, which attracts a large concentration of wildlife during the dry season. Katavi is especially known for its huge herds of buffalo, large numbers of hippos and crocodiles, as well as elephants, zebras, giraffes, and various antelope species. Predators such as lions, leopards, and hyenas are also present in good numbers.

Birdlife is abundant, with over 400 recorded species, making it a great destination for birdwatching. Because of its remote location, Katavi offers an untouched wilderness experience with few tourists and excellent opportunities for game viewing in complete solitude.

Access to Katavi is mainly by small aircraft, although it can also be reached by long overland journeys. The park is ideal for experienced safari-goers looking for a raw, off-the-beaten-track adventure in the heart of Africa.
