Faqs
Is it safe to go on safari in Tanzania?
Yes, Tanzania is a safe safari destination, especially when traveling with experienced guides like those from Mtila Safaris. Always follow your guide's advice and safety protocols while in the bush.
What is the best time to visit Tanzania for a safari?
The dry season from June to October offers the best wildlife viewing, but the green season (November to March) is also great for birding and seeing baby animals, especially in the Serengeti.
Can I combine a safari with a beach holiday?
Absolutely. Many travelers combine a northern circuit safari with a relaxing beach escape in Zanzibar, Pemba, or Mafia Island. Mtila Safaris can create a seamless itinerary for both.
What should I pack for my safari?
Pack neutral-colored clothing, a hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, insect repellent, and a good camera. Layers are helpful for early morning drives and cooler evenings.
Do I need vaccinations to travel to Tanzania?
Consult your doctor before traveling. Common recommendations include Yellow Fever (if coming from an endemic country), Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, and Malaria prophylaxis.

Day By Day

Your safari begins with morning pickup from Dar es Salaam and a scenic 5–6 hour drive to Nyerere National Park. After check-in and lunch at your lodge or tented camp, embark on a sunset boat safari along the Rufiji River. Spot hippos, crocodiles, water birds, and possibly elephants drinking at the riverbanks.

Overnight in Selous. Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Rise early for a full-day game drive, exploring the park’s diverse landscapes—from open plains and woodlands to wetlands. Search for wildlife including elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffalos, wild dogs, and more. Stop for a packed lunch in the bush before continuing your game viewing

Start with a morning game drive, covering new areas to maximize your wildlife sightings. Around midday, visit the Kabuli la Selous hot springs, a remote geothermal site where natural hot water bubbles from the earth. Enjoy the scenery, stretch your legs, and take photos. Return to camp in the afternoon to relax.

Begin your day with a guided walking safari, discovering the smaller details of the bush—animal tracks, bird calls, medicinal plants, and insects—accompanied by armed rangers. After lunch and a break, head out again for a final afternoon game drive, ideal for golden-hour photography and spotting predators at dusk.

After breakfast, check out and drive back to Dar es Salaam, arriving in the late afternoon. This marks the end of your unforgettable safari experience in Tanzania’s wild south.
