Faqs
Is it safe to go on safari in Tanzania?
Yes, Tanzania is a safe safari destination, especially when traveling with experienced guides like those from Mtila Safaris. Always follow your guide's advice and safety protocols while in the bush.
What is the best time to visit Tanzania for a safari?
The dry season from June to October offers the best wildlife viewing, but the green season (November to March) is also great for birding and seeing baby animals, especially in the Serengeti.
Can I combine a safari with a beach holiday?
Absolutely. Many travelers combine a northern circuit safari with a relaxing beach escape in Zanzibar, Pemba, or Mafia Island. Mtila Safaris can create a seamless itinerary for both.
What should I pack for my safari?
Pack neutral-colored clothing, a hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, insect repellent, and a good camera. Layers are helpful for early morning drives and cooler evenings.
Do I need vaccinations to travel to Tanzania?
Consult your doctor before traveling. Common recommendations include Yellow Fever (if coming from an endemic country), Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, and Malaria prophylaxis.

Day By Day

You will be picked up early in the morning from your hotel in Dar es Salaam between 5:30 and 6:00 AM depending on your location. You'll be transferred to the SGR train station and board the train to Morogoro, a scenic ride of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Upon arrival at the Morogoro station, your guide will meet you and drive straight to Mikumi National Park, about 2 hours away. After arriving at the park, enjoy an afternoon game drive where you may spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and possibly lions and hippos. After the game drive, check in at your camp or lodge inside or near the park for dinner and overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, depart Mikumi and begin your long but scenic drive to Ruaha Hilltop Lodge. The journey takes approximately 6 to 7 hours depending on road conditions, passing through villages, hills, and southern highlands. Arrive in the late afternoon or early evening at Ruaha Hilltop Lodge, located just 10 km from the park gate. Settle in, enjoy dinner, and spend the night surrounded by the peaceful wilderness.

Start the day with an early breakfast before heading out for a full-day safari in Ruaha National Park. This is one of the largest and wildest parks in Tanzania, home to a high density of elephants, large lion prides, buffalo, leopards, and a variety of antelope species including roan, sable, and kudu. Explore the diverse habitats from baobab-studded hills to the banks of the Ruaha River, where wildlife gathers for water. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park and continue exploring until late afternoon. Return to Ruaha Hilltop Lodge for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, check out from Ruaha Hilltop Lodge and begin your journey back to Morogoro. The drive takes around 6 to 7 hours. Upon arrival in Morogoro, your guide will bring you to the SGR train station in time for your return train to Dar es Salaam. You may choose the 5:00 PM or 7:30 PM train depending on your schedule. When you arrive in Dar, a driver will meet you at the station and transfer you to your hotel or home, marking the end of your safari adventure
